History

Bokator (Kun Lbokator) is an ancient Cambodian martial art; bas-reliefs at Angkor are often linked to its fighting techniques. It uses elbows, knees, strikes, grappling and weapons, and its name is linked to "pounding a lion".

Many masters were killed under the Khmer Rouge, and the art almost disappeared. Grandmaster San Kim Sean revived it in Cambodia in the 2000s, and in 2022 UNESCO listed Kun Lbokator as intangible cultural heritage.
