History
Canne de combat is a French martial art with a light walking stick, born from 19th-century self-defence with the cane taught next to savate. Pierre Vigny even taught it in London, where it entered Bartitsu.
The modern sport was codified in the 1970s by Maurice Sarry. Fighters wear padded suits and fencing masks, and a strike only counts if it is armed with a wide swing and hits a valid target.
