History

Choy Li Fut was founded in 1836 by Chan Heung in Guangdong, combining the teachings of three masters: Choy, Li and Fut (the Buddhist monk Choy Fook). It mixes the long-range swinging arms of northern styles with the solid stances of the south.

The Hung Sing school in Foshan became one of its great centres, and the style spread widely to the Chinese diaspora around the world.
