History
Kurash is the traditional standing wrestling of Uzbekistan and Central Asia, practised for centuries at weddings and festivals. Wrestlers hold each other's towel-like belts and try to throw the opponent onto his back; there is no ground fighting.
Modern sport kurash was organised in the 1990s, and the International Kurash Association was founded in 1998. Kurash was a medal sport at the 2018 Asian Games.
