History
Laamb is Senegalese wrestling and the country's most popular sport. The professional version allows punches as well as throws ("lutte avec frappe"), and big fights fill stadiums and are followed by the whole nation.
Fights are surrounded by music, drums, dances and mystic rituals with protective charms (gris-gris) prepared by marabouts. Champions become national celebrities, and the title of "king of the arenas" is the highest honour.
