History
Silambam is a staff-fighting art from Tamil Nadu, in southern India, mentioned in ancient Tamil literature. Practitioners use a long bamboo staff with fast spinning, strikes and complex footwork.
It spread with Tamil communities to Malaysia, Sri Lanka and Singapore, and it is still taught and performed at festivals.
