Glima is Iceland's national wrestling, with roots in the Viking Age and mentioned in the old sagas. Wrestlers wear leather belts around the waist and thighs and grip each other's belts, standing upright and moving clockwise.
The aim is to make the opponent touch the ground with any part of the body above the knee or elbow. Glima was shown at the 1912 Stockholm Olympics, and the "Grettir's Belt" competition has been held since 1906.
