Biomechanics: what the body does

The supporting foot pivots outward, the hip turns over and the leg swings in a horizontal arc, striking with the shin or instep. In the Muay Thai version the leg stays almost straight and the whole body rotates through the target; in the karate and taekwondo version the knee is chambered and the lower leg snaps.
