Biomechanics: what the body does

A fast straight punch with the lead hand. The lead foot steps or the hips turn slightly, the shoulder rolls forward to cover the chin and the fist travels in a straight line and returns along the same line. It measures distance, sets up combinations and is the most thrown strike in stand-up combat.
